Welcome to November in Charleston, this is one of our favorite months of the year! The Farmers Market continues each Saturday morning through November at Marion Square. The Charleston Princess will have several brunch Cruises departing from the Maritime Center. The Stingrays are back on the ice too. The Firefly Distillery will be hosting Sunday Funday Brunch on Nov 5th and 12th. The Dock Street Theatre will be performing A Christmas Carol from Nov 28th and will run through Dec 22nd. Real estate sales in Charleston continue to be slightly relaxed, mostly due to the rise in mortgage rates. Rates are now over 7.25% for a national average. It appears that these higher mortgage rates may be around for a while. The Fed is trying to navigate a soft landing in its goal to lower inflation to 2%. Year to date, we are down almost 20% in transactions versus the same last year. November through January are typically slow months for real estate sales in Charleston. The median sales prices throughout the Low Country continue to be strong though (currently over $410k).
Meanwhile, the Charleston area economy has been doing great! United Airlines and Boeing said the carrier is expanding its 787 Dreamliner fleet, exercising options to order 50 airplanes, and securing an additional 50 options.TAAG Angola Airlines became the latest carrier to order Boeing 787 Dreamliners in what it calls a move to make its fleet more modern and efficient. Scout Boats will break ground on a $10 million expansion project at its Summerville location. Frampton Construction is growing its regional headquarters with an expansion in Charleston County. The nearly $13 million investment will create around 100 new jobs. Charleston and Greenville have been named to Condé Nast Traveler’s Best Cities in the U.S. Reader’s Choice Awards. Lowes Foods, a Carolinas-based grocer, is opening a fifth store in the Charleston market in Summerville. A digital infrastructure company has purchased land in Berkeley County for the construction of a new data center. DC Blox, a provider of data centers, dark fiber, cable landing stations and connectivity solutions focused on the Southeast, recently completed the purchase from Santee Cooper of 27.5 acres in Berkeley County. They have plans to construct a new data center at the site.
