
December is here and holiday events are abundant throughout the Low Country. The Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park is always a favorite. The SC Aquarium Aglow will also be fun to attend on select evenings throughout December. Moncks Corner has a Holiday Lights Driving Tour along with the Holiday in the Park. Tree lighting ceremonies will be held on Dec 6th in Goose Creek, Park Circle, Moncks Corner, and Colonial Lake. Christmas Parades are Dec 7th in the City of Charleston, Moncks Corner, and North Charleston. Folly Beach and Goose Creek have their parades on Dec 14th. Mount Pleasant has an evening parade of lights on December 15th. Credit One Stadium will be transformed into a skating rink for the month. The Garden Club of Charleston welcomes you to enjoy their decorations at the Joseph Manigault House. The Footlight Players will be performing “A Christmas Story” from Dec 6th -22nd at the Queen Street Playhouse. Dock Street Theater will be performing “A Christmas Carol” through Dec 22nd. Charleston Strolls Holiday Walking Tour through the Historic District starts at the Mills House on select days throughout the month. Catch a Holiday Sleigh Ride at 14 Anson Street. Don’t miss the Holiday Market on Marion Square. Of course, there will be NYE parties everywhere on Dec 31st including the Flip Flop drop on Folly Beach. Here is your December calendar:

Charleston real estate sales are about the same as last year. Higher mortgage rates are still having a big impact on the market, but the Fed cut rates by half a percentage point in September and then another quarter point early in November. However, these cuts have not had a huge impact on mortgage rates so far. It is expected that there will be another quarter point reduction in December. Through October 2024, we are down 0.4% in transactions versus the same 2023 period. The Charleston area median sales price is still strong though with a 3.6% increase from last year. The Charleston area median sales price is now at $430k.
Meanwhile, the Charleston economy is booming. Ground was broken officially Nov 14th on an 880-acre economic development site in Hardeeville that will accommodate up to 6M sq ft of warehouse and industrial space. NorthPoint Development in partnership with CrossHarbor Capital Partners launched Phase I of the project, which represents $200M in capital investment and will generate more than 550 jobs at full build out. Charleston International Airport and BermudAir have announced the first-ever nonstop flight between the Lowcountry and the island of Bermuda. An airline based in Santiago, Chile, is set to purchase ten Boeing 787 Dreamliners assembled in N Charleston. Portman Holdings LLC and CapitaLand Ascendas REIT have partnered to begin development of Summerville Logistics Center in Dorchester County. The development will include two buildings totaling 549k sq ft and expected to be completed at the end of 2025. Greystar Development recently broke ground on phase two of its $185M Courier Square apartments in the upper King Street corridor. The Naval Information Warfare Center has awarded a Charleston tech company, Atlas Technologies, with a $92M contract. North Charleston-based OhmIQ Inc. has expanded its Charleston County operations with a $1.1M investment creating 21 new jobs for the Charleston region. Low Tide Brewing is expanding its operations in Charleston County with a $22.2M investment that will create 33 new jobs.
